Brick by brick: Your generosity builds a strong foundation for Haitian children

On registration day for the 2022-23 school year, prospective students and their families were once again lined up hours before enrollment began.

The word continues to spread about the educational and life-enrichment opportunities at LakayTimoun. And the needs are real.

How could we say no?

 In 2020, LakayTimoun opened its doors to a record 100+ students, kindergarten through fifth grade. Thanks to the generosity of folks just like you, we were ready with new classrooms and bathrooms.  

But our little family continues to grow. In 2021-22, we enrolled 148 students. This year, there will be 169. The time is now for new classrooms beyond the ones recently added. 

The current focus is on finishing up space for preschool. That also means adding more staff, more books and supplies, and food. 

With civil unrest in Haiti, inflation nearing 30 percent and our numbers continuing to grow, our overall costs are growing, too.  

Thanks to generous large donation, the next classrooms are underway. Doors and windows are all that remain to be finished (at an estimated cost of $19,000). In recent years, we've grown by leaps and bounds, adding not only permanent classrooms but also bathrooms and a kitchen. Students who attend are ensured both schooling and meals.

Work is being done by locals in a true community effort, proceeding as supplies and funding are available.

The additional space allows LakayTimoun to continue broadening our impact on the local area, not only offering essential education for kids, but also solid work and salaries for teachers and other staff.  

From the very beginning, LakayTimoun has stretched every dollar through faith, strategy and divine intervention. We have seen God move in miraculous ways, coming through with just what we need, again and again, at just the right time.
